Workshop & Lectures
Build Your Own School
Jack Bardwell
The workshop by Jack Bardwell innovates the concept of “School within School,” the goal is to provoke critical thinking about the existing educational environment. This vision, driven by my peers’ findings of what the university lack, incorporates the establishment of a Student Union with unique feature of a movable human notice boards. The project involves the entire student body, divided into four teams—collecting, actor, documentation, and costumes. Performance art takes center stage as a Post-it man gathers opinions, encouraging free expression. The collection phase revolves around prompts addressing campus coffee costs, resource sharing, faculty space, and information flow, fostering diverse perspectives.
Reflecting on the project, the team considers the impact of context, the power of uniform in addressing social anxiety through performance art, and the unexpected engagement of participants. The experience highlights the potential of creativity within the bounds of existing knowledge, emphasizing the dynamic relationship between conceptual exploration and real-world understanding.
